This Past Weekend
What a wild weekend for runs we had. A group of us tackled the Rouge Valley trail on Saturday in some tricky conditions. Snow, hidden leaves and the contours of the trails made for some pretty neat running. Add to that the funny looks that we got from the people walking their dogs, it was quite enjoyable.
Sunday, we had a good size group meet at run from Mr Bean's Coffee Co. at Pt Union and Lawrence. We ran to Col Danforth park and ran up the paved path towards Morningside park. The path was paved so that meant road run, but it turned out to be almost completely covered with snow the whole way. So it turned out to be more of a trail run experience.
Way to go all you runners who made it out this weekend. I hope you all enjoyed it.
Here are the maps of the runs that we did.

Sorry to do this...
Trail Run Cancelled, Venue changed to Highland Creek
Okay, I went to check out the trails today and they seem to be a little too treacherous for our group's Long Slow Distance Run. With the combination of slick conditions, leftover snowy spots and leaves on the trail it all adds up to slow and slippery running.
Instead we are going to be running the Highland Creek paved trail. We will be meeting at Mr. Beans Coffee company at the corner of Pt Union and Lawrence. Please come ready to run at 8 am. We will be running west from there the short distance to Highland Creek/Col. Danforth park. This weeks run is an hour and a half for most of us. Don't forget your water and fuel for running.
If you have any questions or special needs for Sunday's run please email or phone me at 905 831 5329.
Remember that this run is open to everyone so come on out and join us.

Weekend update
Yes the trail run on Sunday is still on, despite the snow. The forecast for Sunday is actually around plus 9° C and rainy so be prepared to get a little dirty.
The good thing about running trails is you can guaranty it will be slippery so you will have to exercise caution and take it slowly. When road running people get a false sense of security and presume they wont slip and that's not a good thing unless your job happens to be making leg casts or crutches.
So come on out and have some fun in the woods but take it easy.
Have a good one.

Running in the Wind
When it's cold outside it's particularly important to know which way the wind is coming from before you go out for a run. As I mentioned before, the windchill does not actually make it any colder but it helps remove heat and so feels colder.
If you happen to go out for a run when it's bitterly cold outside and do the first half of your run with the wind at your back you may find the conditions quite different once you turn around and the wind is in your face. This could actually be quite dangerous if you are doing a long run, especially if you have any issues on the way back that make you slow down or stop.
Try to either do the first half of your run into the wind or plan a route that loops the area that you are finishing in, that way you could always take a shortcut to the finish if you run into trouble.

Free Lunch and Learn Sessions
One of Hit The Road's business models is to provide Run Team training to corporations and charity organizations. We try to make this program as convenient as possible by doing the training at the organizations site at a time that is convenient to it's members or employees.
There are multiple benefits to organizations having fit and active employees including better productivity, less sick days, less stress, increased communication, more exposure for your organization, the list goes on and on.
Best of all for the organization is that it doesn't have to cost them a penny.
If you think your organization may be interested in a free Lunch and Learn for it's employees, please feel free to drop me an e-mail at tony@hittheroadrunning.com.
Share your passion for running with your co-workers before one of them snaps and brings a high powered rifle into work.
Keep Running.
