A Great Weekend of Running
What beautiful running weather we have been blessed with lately! Congratulations to all those clinic and other Hit the Road Running people who came out for a terrific trail run today. The weather was cool but still sunny and perfect to hit the trails. Some people were even wearing shorts! I hope all the newbies to trail running enjoyed themselves, even with all those hills that Tony made you go down then UP! After the great response from today, maybe we can include at least one other trail run to our Sunday runs. Be sure to let me know what you think.
More congratulations are in order for those Hit the Road Running STARS that went down and ran the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, DC this weekend. We are waiting to hear your story of how you triumphed at Iwa Jima.
Belated Congratulations to Girlie Harvey in completing the Detroit Marathon without setting off the Radiation scanners at the border. Way to go!
Tuesday night's track workouts with Ken.
I will be at the Pine Ridge SS track this Tuesday and as many Tuesdays to follow as long as the weather cooperates and the lights are still being turned on for us. Again if you would like to be included in the Tuesday nights email thread please email me or tell me when you see me. Remember if you are on this email list, your email address will be shared with others in the same list.

Geocaching Update
This post is for all those techno geeks out there who would like to do more with your Forerunner than just run with it.
I have been treasure hunting for just over two months now and my family and I just love it. We have used this as a reason to go for long hikes in the woods and we even spent an afternoon driving around in Cottage country looking for a few of these finds.
What is Geocaching?
Geocaching is an entertaining adventure game for gps users. Participating in a cache hunt is a good way to take advantage of the wonderful features and capability of a gps unit. The basic idea is to have individuals and organizations set up caches all over the world and share the locations of these caches on the internet. GPS users can then use the location coordinates to find the caches. Once found, a cache may provide the visitor with a wide variety of rewards. All the visitor is asked to do is if they get something they should try to leave something for the cache.
What does this mean to you?
Although many people who do this go out and buy GPS units, many of us runners already have one that is capable of doing this: Our Forerunner running watches.
So if you are looking for some adventure or would just like to challenge your children with something not entirely connected to the television or the mall. Why not give it a try?
If you need help getting started you can Email me or just visit www.geocaching.com
You can also look at my first report on Geocaching Here.

Boxing Day 10 Miler
Our current distance program has a goal race of the Boxing Day 10 miler in Hamilton. We strongly encourage you to sign up early for this event as it will help you to commit to your training.
Online registration is already available here, and I've added the link on the sidebar if you decide to wait and sign up later. Prices do not go up until December 5th.
I also wanted to remind everyone that the clocks go back one hour this Sunday at 2am so if you're planning on joining us for our trail run at 8am, don't forget to change your alarm clock on Saturday. The weather looks like this is going to be a great weekend for running.

Club Runs October 29 - 30
Trail Run - Sunday October 30th - Pickering, Seaton Trail.
Where : Pickering, Seaton Trail
When : 8am
Time : 1 hour run
Directions : From Highway 2, take Valley Farm north to the end at concession 3. Turn left and park at the end of concession 3.
Click map to enlarge.
If you've never done any trail running before, don't be scared. It's an excellent workout and trains those collateral muscles that don't get a good workout on the road, there's also less impact. You can use your road shoes but may want to use an old pair if it's been raining.

SOCIAL EVENT - Pub Night
We have set the date for our November Social Event as Friday November 18th. This will be a Pub Night (don't worry we won't make you run this one).
The Pub is still to be determined so keep watching but write the date in your calendars.
I promise to have the photo's up of the last Pub Run over the weekend (what can I say, I've been busy with a newborn).

Pub Run TONITE!
Don't forget to come out tonight for the Pickering Pub Run to celebrate a great season and to launch the fall season which looks to be even bigger and better than ever.
Festivities start at 7pm at the Bear and Firkin at Kingston Road and Valley Farm Road and we will be heading (slowly) to the Fox and Fiddle Mansion at Kingston and Liverpool and finally to the Bull and Finch at Dixie and Finch. We will all be sticking together so don't worry about having to run alone.
If you cannot make the actual run, why not come out and meet us at the Bull and Finch and catch up with all your old friends and maybe make some new ones.
Don't forget the whole event is FREE (you will have to buy your own refreshment though) and there will be prizes for some rather strange things including best costume.
All the details are available here.
