Where did the GPS go?

Had a good 8K run today. The sun was out for once and it wasn't too hot. For some reason, my GPS had a lot of trouble finding a signal and after running a known 8K route, it said I had run 6.34K.

The map it drew was all over the place as well. Hopefully this is not the shape of things to come.

30K in the rain

Yesterday I has a great 30K run despite the heavy rain. I decided to run from the trail by my office rather than my usual trail so I ran down the Don river trail and along the waterfront trail past harbourfront all the way to the CNE and back.

It rained for a while while I was downtown but it wasn't until the last 5K that it really started coming down. I didn't notice how hard it was raining until I stopped. Luckily I had a towel in the car to stop me getting the seat soaked.

There were a tonne of runners on the trail on Sunday, many more than on a typical weekday. It was a good run, felt great all the way once my Achilles warmed up. It doesn't hurt too much today either.

Oppressive weather

Yesterday I took an additional rest day as me Achilles was still acting up and I got an offer for a free lunch.

Today was hot and humid. Temp with humidity was said to be at 40C. I went out for a 10K run and was good for the first 8K but then the heat started to get to me. Either that, or the smog. By the end of the run my lungs hurt.

My Saucony shoes seem to have broken in nicely. Still not sure if they are the right shoe for me but they are not causing blisters any more (at least not on a 10K run).

Gettin back into the swing

Yesterday I did a great fast 6K run. The weather was perfect, cool and cloudy and I felt great.

Today I managed an 8K steady run, some of it off road. The garmin was being a little temperamental today. It was hot and hazy today but the run was good.

Details for Chicago are falling into place.

Longest training run

Yesterday I went out and ran my longest ever training run. I managed a 35.45K run and feel great right now, no soreness, no pain (including the Achilles), no blisters and no chafing.

It was a beautiful day, lots of sunshine and about 14C at the start. Probably around 22C when I finished and it was starting to warm up.

Also we are sorting out details about our Chicago trip. Looks like we are staying downtown near the start which will be good. I just hope the hotel has a hot tub!

Back at it...Again

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. So once again I'm out pounding the pavement. After my entire week off I did a 6K on Tuesday and Wednesday this week and all was pretty good. The Achilles is tight though.

Wednesday Evening I had a massage but didn't run again until today when I put in 10K with the new shoes again.

I didn't feel too bad but my Achilles has tightened right up again. Time for some ice!

This Sunday I plan to run 30+ but I'll see how it goes.

Well the blister on my heel is no better and it's killing me so there will be no more running for a few days. My work shoes are killing me too.

I had to put a stop to the clinic I was thinking about doing for the charity as it's just not safe to conduct a clinic in six weeks. People will get injured if they ramp up that fast so I had to turn them down. Hopefully if they do any more events like this we can work out a program for them.

New Shoes

Went to the store on Saturday and bought a new pair of Shoes. Got the Saucony Grid Swerve which felt most like my old Nikes. Not entirely sure they were the best idea as now I find out that they are not a high mileage shoe.

Went out for a 32K training run on Sunday wearing my new shoes which is exactly what I tell all my marathon participants NOT to do! Now I have a blister the size of a quarter on my heel. Compeed blister band-aids work wonders but I'm still a little sore when I have shoes on!

On my 32K I ran all the way into Linde Shores Conservation area in Whitby. It was a good run despite the blister and only started getting hot on the last 4K as I ran away from the lake.

In those seven days I ran a total of 80K due to running last weeks long run on the Monday. My achilles doesn't feel too bad and the legs hardly ache at all.

Next Sunday 36K!

Yesterday was a pretty miserable day but as I was going out for my run in the evening the sun came out and it was looking good. Within about 2 minutes of running the heavens opened and it rained for almost the entire run. Ran 8K with Dave who is now confirmed to come to Chicago with us and planned a nice easy pace but came in just a little over 5 minutes per K.

Today I went out at lunch and it was a great day for a run. Low 20's, sunny with a few clouds. I ran 10K up to and around Edwards Gardens and felt pretty good.

The problem right now is my Achilles which has tightened up a lot since the run and is pretty sore now. Both pairs of shoes I'm using right now are over 500K so it's time to get a new pair.

I have people inquiring about clinics in the lead up to the Scotiabank runs in September but still haven't heard back from the charity if it's a go or not so I'm kind of in limbo right now.

I may not run tomorrow to give my Achilles a little rest but Sunday I'll be doing 32K.

Long runs in the heat

On Saturday night I went out to celebrate Caribana so my usual Sunday long run was postponed to Monday. I didn't get out of the house until after 9am and was planning to do a 30K run knowing it was getting hot. Well the temp got up to 29C plus humidity by the time I finished and the last 5K just wasn't any fun at all but I didn't quit. Got home and sank about 3 litres of fluids before sitting in the kids pool in the back garden to cool off some more.

On Tuesday I went to see my massage therapist about the pain I've been having in my Achilles tendon. After some torture to my calves it actually doesn't feel too bad today. Going back for another visit next week. I want to get it sorted out before going to Chicago. There are now 6 of us going to Chicago and it's already half way through my training. Wow.

Still waiting to hear back from the charity that wants me to do a clinic for them. Was hoping to hear yesterday but so far nothing.
